sight in your gun with Magic at 25 yards

We'll give you the facts, you make the choice.  Here we will provide the trajectory of 5 of popular rifle rounds and show the trajectory with the scope sighted in at 25, 100, 200, and 300 yards.  Each case is assuming 68 degrees F and the scope mounted 1 1/2 inches above the barrel center.  The number above each table is the distance the scope was sighted in.  Target shooters - yea - sight in on your target range.  Hunters ? - your targets may come at many ranges so look at the numbers and decide what you like best.  Regardless of what caliber you shoot there is MAGIC at 25 Yards.

Now that you’ve had a chance to look at the trajectory of 5 popular calibers, at what range are you going to sight in your scope?  As for me and my hunting rifle, I’m at 25 yards.  My “go to” hunting rifle is a .308.  As you can see from the charts, with my crosshairs right on target the most “off target” I will be up to 250 yards is 2.7 inches.  With a kill zone, depending on what I’m hunting, from 4 square inches up to 12 square inches – 2.7 inches is close enough for me -- usually better than I can shoot anyway. 

Another little touch of MAGIC at 25 YARDS is this:  You are dead on ZERO at 25 yards and dead on ZERO at some other range around the 250 yard mark depending on the caliber and ammo -- and never too far off anywhere between. 

Now just for kicks for you varmint hunters, I'll throw in a 22-250 with a real light breeze of 3mph coming from  left to right.  We'll show the drop along with the drift.  Notice sighted in at 25 yards, your "back on ZERO" distance is just short of 350 yards.  The flatter shooting a round is the farther it stretches this distance.  22-250 is a pretty flat shooter -- but check that drift with only 3 mph of wind.
